Handcuffs
- These restraints are made to secure a person's wrists very
close together where the individual cannot move their wrists more
than a few inches apart. There are two halves, connected with a
chain, hinge or bar. Each half of the handcuff has a ratchet
mechanism which allows it to close around a person's wrist to
prevent them from escaping.
Handcuffs with
double locks - This makes picking the locks more difficult
when there is a double lock. There is a lock-spring mechanism
that when engaged, (usually using the top of the key) stops the
cuff from ratcheting tighter when struggling to prevent
the person from making them tighter, in turn causing circulation
loss or even nerve damage. |
