When I meet new people and tell them what our company does, they always ask me all kinds of questions about stun guns, TASER devices and pepper spray. Therefore, I am going to answer my most frequently asked questions today.

1. What is the difference between a stun gun and a TASER?
A stun gun is a device where you have to be within arms length of the attacker because you have to touch them with the prongs at the end of it where the arching happens. A TASER on the other hand shoots two electrodes out 15 feet away, and gives you a chance to drop it and run while the assailant is still getting 50,000 volts dumped into their nervous system for 30 seconds.

2. Can I also get stunned if the attacker touches me while I’m stunning him?
First of all, he’s going to be immobilized, therefore that shouldn’t be a concern. If he’s already touching you when you do it, you will be perfectly safe as it will not transfer over to you because the current is going through your attacker’s muscles which absorbs the voltage.

3. I frequently hear of people dying from cops using a TASER on someone. Are stun guns and TASERS deadly weapons?
No, they are non-lethal devices, it’s amperage that kills, not voltage. Every stun gun and TASER has less than one amp. Police issued TASERS are more powerful than the civilian models. Not to mention, some of the victims may have been on some type of illegal drugs such as methamphetamines which have already accelerated their heart and raised their blood pressure. Death from these devices is extremely rare.

4. What would you recommend? A stun gun, TASER or pepper spray?
It all depends on the situation really. If there is more than one person attacking you, then a single stun gun or TASER wouldn’t really be as effective. I would recommend always having pepper spray on your key chain in case of an incidence like this. However, if it is a windy day and there’s only one person attacking you, you don’t want the pepper spray to blow right back into your own face. I personally have pepper spray on my key chain at all times, AND a TASER. Once the cartridge is shot out of the TASER, it can also be used as a stun gun.
