Death By Chocolate?

Living in the city has it’s benefits.  I grew up in the country in Missouri where the nearest store was nearly a 15 minute drive.  I was having a SERIOUS chocolate craving today, so I drove about a minute down the road to pick some up. Even though I have been watching my weight, there is one thing on this earth I cannot give up, and that’s chocolate. I don’t know if that’s because I was eating chocolate since I was old enough to eat being raised by a German mom or what!  I can recall having chocolate put into my mouth when I didn’t even want it at the age of 5!  Now I’m simply addicted.  I recently learned that you shouldn’t deprive yourself of the things you love, or you will just end up breaking down in the long run and splurging, therefore gaining all the weight you just lost back.

There are more reasons to look on the bright side when you have some! Chocolate has been linked to serotonin levels in the brain. It contains alkaloids like theobromine and phenethylamine, that have physiological effects on one’s body.  It has other benefits as well!  It may also lower blood pressure. It’s also been said that dark chocolate has recently been recognized for it’s health benefits.  It has a large amount of antioxidants that reduce the formation of free radicals.  The theobromine is very toxic to some animals, such as dogs and cats and can be fatal!

As I was picking up some dark chocolate, I ran into a friend of mine at the dollar store, and she was telling me that a friend of hers who works at a dollar store was just recently assaulted and beaten, left for dead when she was taking out the garbage.  If she had only had a pretender cell phone stun gun on her, her attacker would have never guessed she was armed, and she could have stopped him in a split second dropping him with 950,000 volts!  What if someone were to attack you when you were just running out to the same store at that moment to buy some chocolate?  Would you want yourself or a loved one to be killed over that?  Unfortunately these things happen.
