Gay or Straight

When I was in school, I remember others making fun of those who were gay.  Sometimes there were even bullies that picked on those that looked or acted gay.  As a teenager, I had a confused outlook on those who were.  I then found out after I graduated that my very own brother was gay.  He had left home when I was only four, so I never grew up with him.  I was only lucky enough to see him on holidays or for a week or so during summer break. Now when he comes to visit us in Florida, we even go out with him to a great little local music video bar which surprisingly gets very crowded.  There are so many different people there that you would never suspect were gay.  Just every day looking people, people with personalities, hearts and emotions just like the rest of us.

Now that I am an adult, I have an understanding for those who are as I have had several friends throughout my life that are gay.  There is something that gets everyone going in life.  I heard stories about straight people that has made my head spin!  Everyone is different which makes this world an interesting place.  If everyone were created the same or liked the same things, it would be a boring world. People feel what they feel and live as they live.  Life is too short to live a lie and not be a happy person.

It saddens me to hear about those that have carried the anti gay attitude onto adulthood.  I read of a man who was attacked who’s face will most likely not be fixed with plastic surgery, and who has lost his sense of smell.  The creep who beat him was just recently sentenced to 30 years in prison.  There was even a witness that testified hearing the attacker make anti-gay remarks during the beating.

There are all kinds of haters and bad guys out there.  I am being the little angel on your shoulder telling you to make sure you have some sort of protection on you at all times no matter if you’re gay or straight.
