Yet another weekend has come to an end. This was the first weekend of Gasparilla. Tampa rescue crews responded to eighty calls for service, the majority of them were for falls. The police made one hundred and forty-one arrests. Seventy-three of them were for misdemeanors, and fifty-seven of them were for underage drinking. There were two felony arrests, and four for boating while intoxicated.

Emergency room doctors treat many cases of alcohol poisoning during this holiday.
Sex crimes increase with Spring Break chaos and use of illegal substances. Many colleges have reported that the level of burglaries and theft of televisions, laptops, DVD players, and jewelry has also been consistently high during Spring Break. Reader’s Digest stated, “this country’s 6,000 colleges and universities report some 40,000 burglaries, 3,700 forcible sex offenses, 7,000 aggravated assaults and 48 murders a year.”
This doesn’t mean that if you are a teen or a parent of a teen that you are or your kid is going to get into trouble, but it’s unfortunate that many have been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Things just happen and it’s a must to be prepared.
