Have You Seen The Lights?

Ohhhhh yes, I was bad this morning. I had German gingerbread cookies staring me in the face. I don’t buy them on purpose, but my mom couldn’t take no for an answer! She had us over this past Sunday for her traditional “advent coffee & cake”.

I am no longer Catholic, however I do consider myself a Christian. For those of you that weren’t brought up Catholic, the few weeks before Christmas are known as “advent” in which the Catholic churches put out a wreath with five candles in it. Three purple, one pink, and one white. Each Sunday one of the candles get lit to symbolize the coming of Jesus, until Christmas when the last one gets lit. Ever since I was little, she would do this every Sunday in December before Christmas. She’d set out plates full of German cookies and the simply to die for German Christmas “stolle” which is a cake with an almond paste called “marzipan” inside, and have family and friends over for coffee. Kind of like what I would imagine they do in England when they have tea time.

We took a walk over to her house and looked at all the Christmas light displays on the way there. It’s easy to let your guard down when you’re in the “zone” looking at all the lights. Don’t forget to always keep some type of protection on you at all times. There has been a significant increase in muggings this year! Many people have become destitute and are at the end of their rope.

Did you hear about the three police officers in New York that sodomized a 24 year old man? They were charged with the felonies Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008. Just remember, law officers are simply humans, too. You don’t know who you can trust these days! Just because someone is wearing a uniform and a badge does not mean they are perfect. There is simply no such thing. Look at how many people are caught every year impersonating officers!
