My husband and I have finally started walking after dinner again. We used to do this years ago, but time has just been passing us by. We’ve been going to a weight management class that has been teaching us how to eat properly to lose weight as well. We learned that some diets may work, but when you’re feeling as if you’re in “diet prison”, then when you stop doing that diet, you can quickly put all the weight you lost back on. That made sense. Time sure is flying! The 4th of July is only a week and a half away! There will soon be fireworks and barbecues everywhere! What better way to celebrate our nation’s declaration of independence! Growing up an Army brat, I remember the gorgeous displays of fireworks Fort Leonard Wood would put on. Now living in the Tampa Bay area, we watch the city’s pyrotechnics display and it’s absolutely exhilarating. There’s nothing like seeing flashing lights and colors adorning the night sky. Read More…
I had to do the dreaded task of grocery shopping today. It’s dreaded for me because I get to see all of the things I would like to eat, but can’t. Isn’t it simply amazing how everything that tastes good is bad or fattening? Just one of the many tribulations of life I suppose. It seems like most things that are enjoyable are bad anymore. I just look at the pastries and I gain a pound. There’s a new grocery store 1 minute down the street from me now that has the best bakery! That store is just heaven! Read More…
Yes, there are kids running about throughout the week days in my neighborhood as that’s a sure sign that school is out for summer! We used to take road trips to visit family during my summer vacation as many families do. We lived in Missouri, and we’d “get out of dodge” in “old Betsy” as my father would always say. Read More…
Living in the city has it’s benefits. I grew up in the country in Missouri where the nearest store was nearly a 15 minute drive. I was having a SERIOUS chocolate craving today, so I drove about a minute down the road to pick some up. Even though I have been watching my weight, there is one thing on this earth I cannot give up, and that’s chocolate. Read More…
I just ran into an old friend of mine. She is single, and is one of those friends that you normally only hear from when she doesn’t have a boyfriend around to keep her company. There was one time that she actually did call us kind of spurt of the moment and said that she was going out on a date with this new guy she met. He was a pharmacist, and she felt like she wanted to do a “double date” with him. Well, we said ok, that’s fine and met them in Tampa at a little sports bar where they had a local band playing. There have been a string of home burglaries within the past month, and the bad guys are still on the loose in the Tampa Bay area. Whether you are here or there, home burglaries have been on the rise. With today’s modern technology, you can now be notified when someone is coming up your driveway! Read More…
I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. This memorial day we had a little family barbecue get together. I made schiskabobs with chicken, sausage, fresh pineapple and green peppers, and my mother-in-law made ribs amongst a few other things, and my mom made her sinful “Black Forest Cherry Cake” laced with vodka. Wow was it good! Read More…
Being born an Army brat I especially couldn’t let Memorial Day go by without remembering those who served our country. Read More…
Having been born an army brat, I lived in Germany for quite a few years. My father married a German, hence that was my first language. We didn’t have a car, therefore we used public transportation to go everywhere. We were always hopping on a bus or a train and running to catch the next. There was a very big mix of people amongst us as it seemed that the majority of the population used public transportation. Read More…
